JD Hannah is an award
winning artist that resides in Evergreen, Colorado. Primarily
a self-taught artist, he always learns from nature when creating his
paintings.
"Nature is the greatest teacher of all. By observing closely what
she reveals I can better paint the authenticity before me."
Born in Charleroi,
Pennsylvania in 1966, a small mill town that sits just south of Pittsburgh
in the Monongahela valley, JD showed early signs of artistic talent at ten
years of age. He drew relentlessly on extra sheets of paper his father would
bring home from the steel mill. He further honed
his artistic skills by studying the Old Master's works in periodicals, books
and magazines at the local town library.
Today, JD enjoys painting
on location outdoors (en Plein air) with other local artists and his works
are mostly completed in one sitting (alla
prima). When creating on location, he utilizes nature's natural light
that helps him to create a harmony that simply can't be duplicated in
the studio. When creating his larger studio paintings JD relies on his
finished Plein air studies and outdoor painting experiences to aid him in
creating his larger compositions.
Living in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of
Colorado affords him a great wealth of subject matter and painting
opportunities along with the camaraderie of other artists that live within
the local art community.
JD Hannah is a member of The Center for the Arts -
Evergreen, The Evergreen Artist's Association, The Foothills Art Center in
Golden, Colorado and taught the "Flight Deck" art course,
"The Art Spirit" at Wilmot Elementary in 2007.
